Introduction to Post-Graduation Work Permits (PGWP)

The Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) offers international students a valuable opportunity to gain Canadian work experience after completing their studies at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada. This permit allows graduates to work in Canada for a duration equal to the length of their program, up to a maximum of three years.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for a PGWP, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Completion of a Program at a DLI
You must have successfully completed a full-time program of study at a Designated Learning Institution in Canada that lasted at least eight months.
  2. Graduated from an Authorized Institution
Your institution must be either a public or private post-secondary institution authorized by the provincial or territorial government to grant degrees, diplomas, or certificates.
  3. Application Within 180 Days
You must apply for your PGWP within 180 days of receiving your final transcript or a written confirmation of graduation from your institution.
  4. Valid Study Permit
A valid study permit must have been held when you completed your program, or it must have expired within the last 90 days.
  5. No Previous PGWP Issued
If you have already received a PGWP after completing another program of study, you are not eligible for a second permit.
